Is it possible………..?
My niece is 17 and 1/2 but she acts like she’s 10. She’s still in love with a baby doll, and sleeps with her doll and teddy bear. She has disney princesses all over her room. She talks like a little girl. And loves kiddish childish things. She watches shows like Arhtur, and would prefer a hello kitty bag over a coach purse any day. Which isn’t bad.
She was raped and molested when she was younger. She was mistreated and expected to be a perfect child and had a lot of responsibilities. And my mom feels she’s probably trying to hold on to her childhood because her inocence was taken so young. Could that be a possible explanation?

I am 22 and love anything disney, my room is covered in disney items and i would probably pick the hello kitty purse too. being childlike isn’t a bad thing and it is very possible the reason she is child-like is because of what she has been through and because she finds some comfort from the innocence of childhood. I wouldn’t worry unless she is regressing to a state where she will not act her own age most of the time, won’t do thinks normal 17 year olds do, starts only communicating in childish language etc.
I too was molested once as a child and I can understand why someone who lost their childhood would want to keep a hold of it. I also think it’s possibly because being a child you arent meant to have responsibilty and you need caring for and perhaps thats what your niece is trying to get by acting childlike- maybe she wants someone to protect her, to take her under their wing etc. It’s hard to know if there is a mental reason for this or perhaps she just likes childish things and shes not abnormal for that in my opinion.
Talk to her and see how she is, tell her if she ever needs anyone you are there…but dont worry about the toys etc if it comforts her then its a positive thing!
